Personal info (family, where you live, where from originally, anything else interesting or relevant?) Married to Helen, 2 daughters - Leana 12 and Anika 7. Stay in Sunningdale. Born in Cape Town and schooled in Worcester.
Where do you see WPCCA in 5 years, 10 years? Developed into a Unit that is trusted and respected as far as coaching structures are concerned, both for Junior and Senior cricket in the Western Province. All coaches will be formally trained through our programs and be empowered to lift the standard of cricket in the province at all levels.

Personal info (family, where you live, where from originally, anything else interesting or relevant?) Married to Sam with an 11 year old cricketing son, Ben.

 

Originally from Jersey in the Channel Islands. Took two years out to travel with Sam over 1995/97, getting engaged at Vic Falls and married in the Whitsunday Islands in Australia.
Fell in love with Cape Town on our travels and eventually moved down here in 2003 for the weather, the outdoor lifestyle and the sport!

 

Where do you see WPCCA in 5 years, 10 years? There are big changes coming within sport and coaching in particular. WPCCA will be at the cutting edge of these changes and help WP to remain a major force in cricket into the future by providing the best opportunities for coaches to learn and develop.

Work Experience (30 Years): Financial Manager/ Manager Internal Auditor/ Forensic Auditor/ Information Systems Auditor. Currently work as an Information Systems Audit Manager at the Provincial Government Western Cape.

Contributions to the Western Province Cricket Coaches Association

  • Extensive Sport Administrative and Management experience, with a proven track record, can communicate at all levels, able to meet deadlines, have good strategic planning and management, organizational, event planning and event management and administrative skills.
  • Have performed extensive research in Sports Administration, Sports Development and Coaching and have a full practical understanding of Sports Administration and Sports Development and Youth and Senior Sport Issues at a National, Provincial Local Government, Club Structure and Federation level and have an established network within this environment.
  • Have extensive practical knowledge and experience, based on my work environment and practical work experience which complement my Sports Administrative skills, to design, implement and manage effective transparent Governance procedures that are practically implementable.

  • Vice Chairperson of WP Cricket Coaches Association Executive Committee (Executive Committee member since 2004)
  • Durbanville Cricket Club Cricket Development Officer. This initiative includes Training & Educational Projects, School Community Sport Initiative Activity Programs, Club/ School linked projects which target the previously disadvantaged communities of Morning Star, Fisantekraal, Klipheuwel, Vissershok and 14 BlackTownships.

  • Junior Chairperson Durbanville Cricket Club January 2004 to February 2008.
  • Established an effective junior section at Durbanville Cricket Club, (currently 160 junior members) which is adequately structured ensure that all coaching matters are coordinated and structured to support the Durbanville Cricket Club and WPCA’s values and core principles, by promoting the technical and psychological skills development of all junior players at club level. This resulted in Durbanville Cricket Club becoming a leading junior section in the WPCA and was awarded the status of a “Center of Excellence”.
  • Successfully introduced in 2006, organised and hosted the annual U12 Black Township Cricket Club Festival which takes place during the September School Holidays which forms part of the Durbanville Cricket Club Cricket Development Program to provide a platform for BackTownship to enter the WPCA Provincial Structures. Currently program includes 14 Black Townships in the Western Cape.
  • Qualified CSA Level 2 Coach and Member of WPCCA.
  • Qualified Umpire (UCB Level 2/ CSA Grade B).
  • Head Coach for Durbanville Cricket Club Junior Section 2004 to February 2008.
  • Coach at Durbanville Cricket Club Junior Section since January 2001 (coached all age groups from U7 to U13). Currently represent Durbanville Cricket Club in WPCA Senior 3B Amateur League Cricket (27 Years cricket playing experience, including Nambia First League).

  • Member of the WPCA Local Leagues Task Team that set up the Playing Conditions and Administrated the 20/ 20 Premier League Championship and assisted with the management process of the first Championship.

  • Manager WPCA 2008 U12 Black Township Cricket Side that played in the U13B Boland Schools Week Tournament hosted by Boland Cricket Board.
  • Tour Organiser, Tour and Team Manager of U14 Boland U14 Invitational team to the United Arab Emirates who played in the 2009 Nissan Gulf Cup held in February 2009 (Tournament Winners).
  • Member of Local Organising Committee for the 2009 U13 National Standard Bank Cricket Tournament.

    • Refereed, coached and administrated soccer while in Namibia.
    • Qualified NRA Referee.
    • While in Katima Mulilo Namibia, I organised and administered local soccer league and tournaments to promote soccer sports code and sport development in the area.
    • Was instrumental in amalgamating the Caprivian Soccer League and Soccer Association into one effective sports body.
    • Effectively promoted soccer in the Caprivian region by presenting soccer referee and coaching courses to local teachers and soccer officials.
    • Instrumental in the formation of a Caprivian Regional Referee Association.
    • Presented soccer referee courses in Keetmanshoop, Oranjemund, Windhoek and Katima Mulilo on behalf of the Namibia Sports Council.

    Coaching Experience: Was a player/coach for Chaparrals Cricket Club in Chicago, USA from 2003 through 2007. Chaparrals CC had a 72% league winning record during those years and besides winning the American Cricket Conference in 2004 also featured in the play-off phase each year except inauguration.
    Current Coaching involvement: Unassigned.
    Personal Cricket Playing background: Played grade school cricket from age 9 and senior club cricket from age 14. Founder, President, player, coach, groundsman, physio of Chaparrals Cricket Club at College of DuPage from 2003 to 2007. Represented the American Cricket Conference All-star team from 2001 to 2003 in the Central East Zone regional competition. Selected for the Central East Zone team to compete at the National Championships in Houston, Texas (2003). Founded Centurions Cricket Club in 2009 and won the Midwest Cricket Conference the same year. Currently playing at Durbanville Cricket Club.
    Personal info (family, where you live, where from originally, anything else interesting or relevant?) Born and raised in Pretoria, Gauteng before moving to Chicago, USA in 2000. Completed degrees and certifications in Information Technology and business and worked as a consultant for 4 years before relocating to Cape Town in 2010. When not at the gym or playing golf Philip can be found exploring the Western Cape with his girlfriend Christelle.
    Where do you see WPCCA in 5 years, 10 years? Envisions WPCCA to become synonymous with quality cricket coaching in the Western Province.
